The right shoe starts with the right fit.
Choose footwear for your feet and your daily activities.
A famous brand is not automatically the right shoe for your feet.
Good footwear is about more than price or cushioning. Fit, purpose, shape, stability, protection and individual needs all matter.
Fit
Enough room for the toes, secure hold around the foot and no persistent rubbing or pressure.
Purpose
Walking, work, sport, diabetes risk and daily use may each need different footwear characteristics.
Protection
The shoe should suit the environment and help protect the foot without creating new pressure points.
Before buying footwear
Choose footwear for your feet and your daily activities. The right fit matters more than the size printed on the box.
- Try both shoes: Fit the larger foot comfortably rather than squeezing it into a smaller size.
- Check length and width: Allow about 12 mm between your longest toe and the shoe's end. Your toes should not feel squeezed.
- Look for enough depth: The upper should not press on your toenails or raised toes.
- Keep the heel secure: Adjust the fastening so your foot stays comfortably in place.
- Wear your usual socks: Their thickness can change how the shoe fits.
- Walk before deciding: Check for rubbing, pressure and slipping. Do not depend on stretching a tight shoe to make it fit.
Buying shoes online?
Check the seller's size guide, available widths and return conditions before ordering. When the shoes arrive, try both indoors on a clean surface before deciding to keep them. A familiar brand does not guarantee the same fit in every model.
Too narrow? A longer shoe may not help.
Consider a wider fitting or a different shape. Extra length can leave your foot sliding inside the shoe without solving the width problem.
